Retailers and their stupid price match policies...

Why Target, WalMart and Radio Shack's (I only name these since I have dealt with them in the past week, but this goes for all those Gump-ass stores) Price Match Policies are Stupid.

Target will match a competitor's printed ad, but NOT if they advertise buy X product & get a gift card. This past week, Toys R Us had the Wii bundle for $124.99 plus you got a $25 TRU GC with purchase. Normally, I gravitate towards Target for spendy things such as this and I wanted to this time, figuring "hey I can get it for a good price & get $25 to use later." Did I? Nooooooo. Target, WHAT THE HELL sense does it make that you won't price match WITH the giftcard?!?!?! At the very least it would guarantee a return trip with more than the $25 spent! Needless to say, I didn't give my business to Target. Thanks Toy R Us for the giftcard that was later used to buy a game, which came with another card.

Walmart shares the same policy with Target, but in addition to that stupidity, Wal-mart (AND Radio Shack) both offer FREE SITE TO STORE shipping, but WON'T match their website prices when you are in the store and have the product in hand and ready to buy! Maybe it's just me, but it seems like Forrest Gump or Karl Childers wrote these policies. mhmm. Vitamin Shoppe, despite the website's statement, will match the website prices when you go in there. WalMart Waltons and Radio Shack- If I'm going to order products from the website, thereby RECEIVING THE WEBSITE PRICE, and pick them up in a store in a couple of hours, which would MAKE SHIPPING FREE, then WHY IN THE HELL could I not just get the website price in store WITHOUT making an online order?! Walmart, you offer price matching with no physical ad required so this makes NO SENSE! I won't even stand for the BS that online has less overhead. Walmart and Radio Shack can pull from their shelves for free, making the physical store overhead part of the deal.

This is just one thing that's been buggin' me. It probably wouldn't be so bad if it weren't for the fact that I haven't been to sleep yet, then I drove to Walmart at 7 am only to come face to face with 97% of the pegs empty in the area that I was looking in and merchandise strewn about on the shelving, not to mention open packaging. There were also inconsistencies- for example, some of the HDMI cables in one brand were locked up but then right next to that peg, 20 were hanging out unsecure. Ah well, I guess I expect nothing but the best from WalMart*sarcasm/eye roll*

Slim Skillet's Restaurant Memphis, TN

I love trying new restaurants. Since I live in the South, I am always on the lookout for good fried chicken places.

People in Memphis might be famliar with the commercials- both of which feature the ever-present, ever cheesy Mark "It's All Good" Goodfellow. Why they chose him as a spokesperson is beyond me.

I've driven by Slim Skillet's several times on the way to or from shopping in the Wolfchase area, but for various reasons just never stopped. After my appointment today, I decided that this would be the day that I was going to try it. I went into it with a clean palate, seeing as how I hadn't eaten all day. I walked in around 2:45 PM. Besides me, there were 2 other ladies. I didn't expect a lunchtime rush that late in the afternoon. The decor is colorful, and the atmosphere is pleasant enough. The staff was sparse. I only heard 2 voices while I was waiting, one of whom was my server, Ben. I don't know if they were short handed or what, but he wore a perma-scowl on his face and seemed exasperated when I asked for individual to go conatiners for the sides.

I ordered a 2 piece mixed meal and a sweet tea. All of their dinners come with rolls, mashed potatoes, green beans, coleslaw, gravy and creamed corn. The food came rather quickly, probably within 5 minutes. I can only assume that the chicken was already pre-made and sitting under a heat lamp, a la KFC. The green beans, mashed potatoes & creamed corn had too much pepper. It tasted like the same seasonings were used on all 3. The mashed potatoes and green beans were too salty for my taste. It was rather disappointing, too, because I LOVE real mashed potatoes. The coleslaw had too much celery salt in it, which is new to me. I think it would be good on a Chicago-style dog, though. My meal came with a breast & thigh. The first bite filled my mouth with oil and juices. The skin had a nice, light crunch and was tastefully seasoned. The meat, tender. I only ate the thigh. I took the rest home. I didn't touch the rolls since I'm not a bread person. The sweet tea was perfect.

Unless they change the amount of seasoning and salt they use, I don't think I'll be returning. I ended up tossing all the vegetables when I got home. Also, they should update their website. I used it for a price reference and found out that all their prices have increased.

L' Oreal One Sweep Eyeshadow and Double Extend Mascara

Applied w/ original applicator on back of hand.

Eyeshadow-  I got the Playful for Green Eyes. The applicator is horrendous! It's the to-be-expected sponge applicator that comes with all eye shadows, BUT it's also supposed to be eye-shaped for a quick & easy application. I have Asian eyes & this didn't work. The texture of the eyeshadow is nice and silky, but there was very little color payoff in this particular palette on my skin.. not even when I applied the colors independently with makeup brushes. You can see in the picture where I applied it with the strange applicator on the back of my hand you can't really see all 3 colors. You can barely see the dark color. As I was watching TV, an idea struck me that maybe one of those cheap little brushes that cone with blush would work. I tried this in the picture labeled as such. It only came out like that only after I swiped & applied 3 times. These colors might work if you're a fair-skinned girl.

Applied with stock blusher brush-hand.

As for the mascara, well the mascara end didn't do much more than the mascaras that I already have. The enhancer side might be cute for a night out, but the little sparkles were annoying in the daytime. When Cover Girl came out with theirs, I wanted to try it but never did. I thought about getting the mascara before I received them as a Bzz agent, but I'm glad now that I didn't spend the money for either one.

Swiped across shadow.

I am lucky to be a product evaluator!

I am grateful for the opportunities that being a buzz agent has offered me. This week, I received my Smart & Easy Spring Cleaning products from SC Johnson. Included in my box were:
Lemon Pledge
Glade Plug Ins Oil- Crisp Waters

Glade Sparkle of Spring Limited Edition candle

Scrubbing Bubbles Toilet Gel

Scrubbing Bubbles MEGA Shower Foamer

So far. I have only tried the Scrubbing Bubbles Toilet Gel. I remember seeing the commercials and for some reason, I thought the gel discs were pre-formed. It also seemed like the applicator was bigger than it was. Because of these misconceptions, when I pulled out the box, I thought that I was missing the applicator! After I read the box, I felt like a moron. As far as the actual product & how well it works, it's too soon to tell. I put a disc in the toilet on Wednesday but my toilet could use a liitle cleaning, so I need to do that to truly test it. To me, it smells like a typical bathroom toilet bowl cleaner. It's not too cloying. Each tube contains enough gel for 6 discs, each disc lasts about a week.
I just bought a warmer for the Glade oil and plan to put it in my bathroom to see how well it helps with the catbox odor. I used to use the Glade oils & regular plugins in the past, but haven't since Febreze came out with their air fresheners.
When I was a kid, my dad used Pledge alot, so the fragrance is connected to happy memories. I love the lemony scent & the way it makes wood look. I plan on using it on the scratched areas of my hardwood floors this weekend.
Finally, I'm undecided on the scent of the Glade candle. The description of the Sparkle of Spring scent is- Zesty Lime, Ginger & Vanilla. I haven't burned it yet to get the full effect.  I DO think SC Johnson should offer a refill for the glass once the candle is gone. Most people don't recycle, so they end up in the landfills. I'm not uber green, but I think that aspect of the candle is a waste.
If it weren't for me being in this campaign, I would likely not have bought the Scrubbing Bubbles products, Glade candle or oil refill unless they were on clearance for a good price or at a discount store like Big Lots. I say this b/c I'm currently laid off and a student, so these would be more like luxurious non-necessities for me.
