No Pain, No Gain?
Exercise is supposed to invigorate you so you feel more energetic, more alive. But if you're feeling pain that is more than just the achiness of getting into shape, listen to your body. Pain might very well mean that you are nearing injury or need to stop pushing yourself. Learn to tell the difference between fatigue from moving more than you're used to and your body resisting the movement because it's painful.
It's all too easy to get hurt when you're working out if you're not careful — so make sure that you're always alert and in tune with your body's needs. Keep water handy, take breaks when you need to, wear the right sneakers or other gear, and know when you've had enough. Remember that as time goes by, you will have the stamina to do more and more without getting winded.
Prevent injury and burn out by being careful — make sure you are doing your exercises correctly. Don't be afraid to ask for guidance, and don't feel like a wimp for stopping if you're in pain. Remember to warm up and stretch before working out, and start out slowly rather than leaping in headfirst with all that energy. Finally, give yourself a break if you need it.
With a Twist
Plain old water can be boring. Even seltzer water can be bland if it's not flavored. But a twist of lime, lemon, orange, or grapefruit can add zing to your water, sparkling or still — so much so that you'd swear citrus fruit was invented for just this reason. Citrus adds instant refreshment to water in warm weather, and a little excitement to your water in the dreary months of winter. Why not try lemon and grapefruit in your seltzer water? Now, that's flavor!
